They have strong preferences and will eat out favoured species, such as broadleaf/pāpāuma and māhoe before moving onto less desirable plants. Damage caused by wild goats contributes to a loss of biodiversity and can prevent forest regeneration. Understandably @docgovtnz is increasing wild goat control on public conservation land and has partnered with the @nzdeerstalkersassociation (NZDA) to run a national wild goat hunting competition.The Spika NZ and @infirayoptics_nz team are proud to be a sponsor of the National Wild Goat Hunting Competition and we believe there’s no question that managing feral goat numbers is essential for restoring and maintaining the health of our environment.Wild goats are abundant throughout New Zealand and do serious damage to farmlands and the natural environment. They are typically seen as a difficult to remove pest, our view is that wild goats are a valuable protein resource and another excellent reason to get into the hills on a new adventure. If we can symbiotically put food on the table, enjoy the outdoors, and promote hunter-led conservation, then everyone wins.The competition is FREE to enter, and hunters will have over $50k worth of prizes up for grabs, kindly donated by the hunting/outdoor recreation sector including a @infirayoptics_nz  Eye 6+ Monocular, a @traeger.nz Ironwood Series grill & accessories, @garminau In Reach Minis, @backcountrycuisine vouchers and more.
